1. Mirror Polishing

The goal of mashing is to solubilize malt constituents, primarily extracting fermentable sugars, and dextrins (non-fermentable sugars) from malt. This is done by steeping the malt/grains in hot water. The mash tun is typically a stainless steel vessel, although copper is occasionally used.
